GINA AND THE EASTERN BLOCK NAIL IT ON THE HEAD WITH AN AMBITIOUS NEW COVER

Covering a song that is in many respects one of the holy grails of modern industrial metal is an ambitious idea. But for Gina Katon and Marc Jordan (the duo that is the nucleus of the band "Gina And The Eastern Block") the idea to cover the Nine Inch Nails classic "Head Like A Hole" was an easy decision to make.

"I wrote the music without having any idea as to what the vocals were going to be", says Jordan. "I definitely didn’t come up with the music as an attempt to cover “Head Like A Hole”. That was a completely magical and spontaneous afterthought."

Jordan says that he and Gina sat with the music for weeks without being able to come up with the right words and melody to add. It was only during the nationwide protests and riots in early June of 2020 that Jordan says he made an immediate connection with the energy of “Head Like A Hole” and the brooding nastiness of his music track.

"Lyrically it seemed so right with what was happening literally right outside of our house in LA. So I just started signing the verses and the chorus of “Head Like A Hole” over the music and it was a no brainer. It fit. It felt right. It was completely an act of God. I take zero credit for combining the two. Sometimes that's how it goes in the creative world. No effort. Just timing and divine intervention."

Gina then recorded her own very convincing take on Trent Reznor's vocals. The task of covering any song, let alone the vocals to a seminal classic like "Head Like A Hole" is unbelievably difficult to accomplish.

Gina nails it on the head. There's really no other way to put it.
